You may have been hit with this feeling before: you want to celebrate a special occasion, add kindling to a young romance, or share a genuinely new experience with a long-time companion. And despite the enormous selection of destinations and experiences available to you throughout L.A. and Orange Counties, no choice seems like it's quite special enough.
Unless, of course, you've heard of Wildflower. Wildflower is the cozy and historic sailing vessel that hosts Corks Away Wine Adventures in Long Beach's Alamitos Bay. The Corks Away experience aboard Wildflower is, at once, magical, breathtaking, unforgettable and purely, almost gushingly, romantic.
The cruise departs near McKenna's on the Bay restaurant and meanders leisurely through the bay, ducking into inlets to avoid the chill of the breeze. If the sun has gone down, the path is lit by the warm glows from waterfront homes on Naples and the peninsula. The water is so still and the air, so quiet--you'll start wondering why you never noticed how stunning Long Beach's waterfront can be.
Now, take this recipe for romance and add wine and rich, delectable appetizers. Your Corks Away cruise treats you to four wines and four perfectly paired dishes, all under the moonlight. Our first pairing was a nice almond champagne with dried cranberries, cashews and almonds. This was followed with a luscious pinot noir, coupled with humus and pita bread. The third course was comprised of a big Cabernet Sauvignon with a sinfully rich spread made of pesto, pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes, cream cheese and provolone cheese. This tantalizing blend of flavors and textures was nothing short of amazing. Our last course was a smooth port served with chocolate truffles and raspberry sauce.
Our cruise host clearly had mastered the art of being there to refill our glasses and then disappearing quietly below deck. There is a bell available if you need something, but chances are, you won't. You already have the moon, the water, the wine and the ambiance...what else is there?
Corks Away hosts wine adventures for two to six people. To find out more and plan your perfect Alamitos Bay cruise, see Corks Away Wine Adventures.
