The Homeland Cultural Center "DanceFest 2009" will be held at the Center Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 11, at 4PM. This FREE event is presented by the City of Long Beach.
DanceFest 2009 will feature performance groups displaying traditional and urban/contemporary dance styles. Scheduled artists to perform include Homeland Pop Shop, West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Hmong Association of Long Beach, Kutturan Chamoru Performers, Demolition Squad Krumpers, Homeland B-Boys, Ballet Folklorico Maria, Culture Shock LA, Ancient Khmer Martial Arts, musician Orlando Greenhill, and DJ Ervin Arana. Artists are subject to change without notice.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, the Homeland Cultural Center is a facility of the City of Long Beach’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine under the auspices of the Community Recreation Services Bureau. The mission of the Homeland Cultural Center is to provide a safe place for the cultivation, preservation, and promotion of art forms, both traditional and contemporary, representing the diverse array of cultures that make up Long Beach today.

Actress and humorist, Kate Clinton, will appear at the Center Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 26, at 8PM. A presentation of Silva Touring, the show is part of her Yes on K8 Tour. Kate Clinton has been making audiences laugh until they think for more than 28 years. In addition to stand-up, Clinton is also an actress and author. Her stage, film, and television credits include Vagina Monologues, The Secret Lives of Dentists, The L-Word, and numerous guest appearances. As an actress, humorist, panelist, and host, Clinton has worked with some of the great writers and performers of our time. She participated in a staged reading of Tony Kushner's play, SLAVS, with Olympia Dukakis, and has worked with Tracey Ullman, and Madeline Kahn at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York. Musical artist Raul Navarro, Jr. is slated to perform at Long Beach's Center Theater on Saturday, July 18, at 7:30PM.
Raul Navarro, Jr., is a Christian composer, songwriter and singer. He's also a Long Beach native! His performance in Long Beach celebrates the upcoming release of his first CD, Tengo Que Llegar (I Must Get There). The 15th Annual E Hula Mau returns to the Terrace Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center on Labor Day weekend. This three-day event is scheduled for Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6. Presented by Na Mamo, the weekend festivities will feature live hula and chant performances as well as unique Hawaiian arts and crafts, workshops, and island-style food. E Hula Mau blends Hawaii's honored traditions with new innovations that appeal to a wide audience. Several hula halau's (dance schools) will showcase their talents with unique renditions of the hula (dance), mele (music), and oli (chant). The weekend kicks off with the Hawaiian Arts & Crafts Fair/Workshops and Food Court at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center Plaza on Friday, September 4, at 12Noon. Opening ceremonies will be held in the Terrace Theater at 3:30pm featuring solo performances. The Fair/Workshops continue Saturday and Sunday beginning at 8:00am featuring many aspects of Hawaiian culture including food booths, lei making demonstrations, and special musical performances. This year’s Mahalo Bash concert featuring award-winning group, Maunalua, will be held on Saturday evening at the Terrace Theater at 7:30pm.
